The Summer of Backpacking: Siltcoos Lake Trail
The Husband has been excited all year about this summer, and to an outsider it could look just like any other summer- but to our family it is known as 'The Summer of Backpacking'. The boys have been admiring the dream of camping, packing in, and fishing all throughout the rainy and cold winter Oregon months. The time has now just come so at the first hint of good weather we set out to conquer (or admire if that makes you nervous) the great outdoors.

Did you go backpacking as a kid? Any good memories to share? What plans do you have outside this summer?
Lunch with the Grandparents
Who gets to eat a whole pickle from a barrel? Pick what they would like for lunch? Have a treat after every meal?
Kids who are having lunch with their grandparents from Spain-thats who!
I didn't even think these pictures would turn out since the light was shinning in the back window so strongly, but I absolutely love them. The purples, browns and glass all slightly washed out give them a feel of days gone by (to me at least).
I love memories being made, such a sweet time.
I remember that my grandma would always comment on the robins outside bathing while we ate. There was a little birdbath outside the window and she would tell us how you could tell it was a robin because they wore white panties! I thought that was the funniest thing- a bird with panties!!
What do you remember about your grandparents?
Snow Swept Our Minds Away
It snowed and we played, played, played.
Froze our fingers and paws and still played.
The excitement of white, cotton snow swept our minds away.
Anxious only of how much pleasure we could breathe in
before our mama told us we were too cold.
We turned in a moment of indecision, we were numb not cold.
But how can a kid argue with a hot cup of chocolate and a warm fire?
Grandma and Grandpa Visit from Spain!!!
Just last week my parents came for a little visit from Spain. We had such a great time, and only had two complaints: the visit was too short and now our oldest can't stop begging to play crazy eights, thanks grandma!!!
For the most part my parents started out pretty normal when they got here and by the end of the time spent with my crazy boys they were a wacky force to be reckoned with. Just check out the following shots, they are documented proof.
During the time they were here we played fútbol, went to a museum, picked blueberries, went shopping, played the before-mentioned card game over and over, watched some good flicks and mostly just enjoyed being together even when we weren't doing anything.
They also brought my boys some Spain champions jerseys!! More posts and pictures to follow-for now enjoy the weirdness that was unleashed.
Do you think there was something in that hot chocolate???
Photography Tips: How to Get Great Pictures in Bad Weather Conditions
How to Take Good Pictures in Bad Weather Conditions:
1.) Be prepared at all times: Bad weather can, but it may not give you a warning. Being prepared to shoot in poor conditions will allow you to capture that shot that you would have missed had you not been geared up and mentally prepared for.
2.) Protect your equipment. Don't sacrifice your camera to get that shot. This is why rule #1 is very helpful.
3.) Many times when weather is at its worst, photography is at its best. The sky is brighter, darker, the fog is like a blanket- all those situations make for some great shots. The key is being willing to get outside when you don't want to, to leave the warmth of your couch and put on your rain gear.
4.) Don't pose people- they will all look miserable. This no posing rule is especially important in cold, windy, wet conditions! Shoot people doing what they want to do, some will turn out others won't. Don't worry about that.
5.) Be ready, be quick and then be done. Take the time you need, but then go home.
