Two First Time Fishermen in Southern Jersey

We have been visiting my family in Southern Jersey this last week. Today my cousins and I took the boys to enjoy their first ever fishing experience. Enjoyed is putting it very lightly, they were entirely thrilled. It was so sweet to see their faces when they caught the fish. They each caught 3 Sunnies, also known as panfish or Bluegill.

I know what two little boys are getting for when we go backpacking this summer....poles with button release, and the courage to bait their own hooks.

With a special THANK YOU to my cousins Dan and Shelly Durand and Jamie Cole for prepping the poles, baiting the hook, casting out, and reeling in- if that is how it is said. We learned a lot today, thank you.

We should do a repeat on the West Coast.

Backyard Fort Adventures

The Chickens aren’t using the runs right now since there is lots and lots of fresh grass to tend to, so I put the boys in one! No worries, it is nice and clean, at least by my standards, and they love this little place to rest away from the sun. I am an avid fort maker, while growing up making forts was a certain highlight. Kids are so imaginative, sometimes it was a Bat Cave, others it was a castle and dungeon.

The boys say that this is their pirate camp.  What did you image as a kid that you had long forgotten about? Does it make you smile to think of a memory of make-believe of long ago?
