Lunch with the Grandparents

Who gets to eat a whole pickle from a barrel? Pick what they would like for lunch? Have a treat after every meal?

Kids who are having lunch with their grandparents from Spain-thats who!

I didn't even think these pictures would turn out since the light was shinning in the back window so strongly, but I absolutely love them. The purples, browns and glass all slightly washed out give them a feel of days gone by (to me at least).

I love memories being made, such a sweet time.

I remember that my grandma would always comment on the robins outside bathing while we ate. There was a little birdbath outside the window and she would tell us how you could tell it was a robin because  they wore white panties! I thought that was the funniest thing- a bird with panties!!

What do you remember about your grandparents?

  1. Nice! Glad we could share some time together.
I remember my grandmother said words no one else used any more like “Pshaw!” She hung out the back window in Brooklyn and hung the wash on a pulley clothesline. My grandfather always had notepads around the kitchen written in shorthand. Those were the city grandparents.
Then the country grandparents lived very close to the earth. They had chickens and my great uncle next door had rabbits and goats. They had a wringer washer, a winestill in the basement and hunting dogs.Never wasted anything. My grandfather had a flower garden of zinnias, a fish pond and painted lifesize cartoon characters that lined the staircase to the basement.Popeye,Mutt and Jeff,Snuffy Smith and Beetle Bailey to name a few.

  2. Nice! I was not fortunate enough to live near either set of grandparents. My kids are growing up similarly, sadly. You need to count this as a major blessing!

    • We are in a similar boat, these grandparents pictured currently live in Spain- and we live in Oregon, USA. We do have one grandma that lives close. I didn’t grow up in the same country as either set of grandparents- but my memories were made on our (or their) visits :) Anytime is enough time to make memories.

  3. Lovely photos! I have too many memories of my grandparents to share them all succinctly. We lived with one set of grandparents for three years, so they were like second parents.
