Our Latest Animal Acquisition: Indian Runner Ducklings

I won't bother telling you how cute they are, just look at these pictures and you'll see for yourself. These are the variety that stands very straight up, similar to a wine bottle with legs. The older they get they are get better at balancing upright and are so adorable like that.

I went to the local (world known) Holderread Waterfowl Farm and Preservation Center to pick up my box of 6 baby ducks. The owner came out in her Birkenstocks and hat to show me where to park and was really neat to work with. She has won a lifetime customer. Anyway, here are those ducks I keep talking about- yes I know too many pics as usual :) Enjoy.

  1. How nice you may raise them; do you bring them back to the pond when they are grown? I remember when I was around 10 a girl in our neighbourhood had a little swan in her backyard; at the moment I have a pigeon nesting with 2 little doves on my balcony but I think those ducklings are much cuter!

    • Oh, doves are so sweet, we have some roosting in a tree close to our property and I love the coo-cooing sound that they make! These ducks we have are not wild, I bought them as day-old ducklings at a local hatchery and this breed doesn’t fly, so in the wild they would not do well. They are my little babies :)
