excellent entry on the ISO. I love photography but I do it sporadcially so that when I pick up my camera, once a week or so, I've forgotten stuff...and I end up relying on the "auto" setting rather than doing the right thing and dealing with settings. Which means I have to scan the book.
The point is: this entry was helpful. Now I have to backtrack and read the others you have done. Yes, it really helps.

i LOVE your tips--i hijacked your 'picnik' info and used it to create my new header and to fix up a bunch of my pics.

i was recently gifted a new digital slr for my bday and am smitten beyond belief!

thanks for the lesson on iso--i have a book, but your pictures make it much clearer. i adore the converse shot--i took one of my own while we were away. there's something about those shoes!

I guess it makes sense that you would want to shoot at the lowest ISO possible for the shot so that you don't get the noise? Whew, when you start getting into depth and such I'm totally lost. I'm pretty please with most of the pictures that we took on the trip, but I think I made some of the landscape shots a little too dark. Oh well...

Hopefully I'll have the pictures up on Sunday. They'll all uploaded but now I've just got to write about the trip. The hardest part!

Glad you liked the post. Yeah, so it does seem like a contradiction, but the lowest ISO possible AND still have enough light for the shot.

Does that make sense? Yeah, it is all a bit confusing...but I hope that explains it.

I would LOVE to take a photo class, I haven't found the right one though!

This definitely helped explain it a lot better. After reading SLR for Dummies (skimming a lot), I learned how to mess with the shutter and light meter a lot but couldn't figure out how to factor in the ISO so just left the setting on auto. I guess until I get comfortable with the basics I'll continue to just shoot on auto. One question of clarification--you say that the "rule" is to shoot with the lowest ISO possible? Seems like a contradiction? Hmmm--maybe instead of taking the second cake decorating class I should take a photog one instead. Thanks for the post, Bethany!!
