I started a book club almost two years ago, it has changed and morphed, but just gotten better and better. It has made it through the season where all my friends wanted to come just to hang out, and now only my friends who actually want to read and live in the area come. It is a perfect size now (not that we would ever not welcome other peeps!!) Alyce, a fellow book blogger from At Home With Books is local and is a member of the group as well!

I love it, we go out to eat first and just hang out, then we go to coffee and dessert and talk more and then talk about the books. We all love books, and most of the time we all read the book, our only fault is that sometimes we have a hard time getting (and staying) on the subject of the book we actually read. After we talk and discuss the book and are full to the brim we have been known to go out to a movie (if we can get that figured out) or over to one of the members house to sit and relax in the hot tub.

Our book club I think is a little different than most in that we actually are friends outside of book club, and our relationships go deeper than books. I love my local book club...it is nice to meet once a month for girl time, an evening to just hang.

This month we are going to read Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, next month Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins!

  1. It’s hard to believe that I’ve been in the book club for nine months now – the time has gone so quickly! You have no idea how much I enjoy getting together with you guys and hanging out to talk about books. Definitely one of the highlights of each month! :)

  2. Wow, by first thought is, we have read alot of books! I agree with Alyce, I really enjoy reading and getting together once a month. I’ll see everyone in October!

  3. How fun to have RL book club. I love, love, love mine: It’s an international Skye club. We too sometimes stray off the topic of the book, but that’s fun too.

  4. wow.. great pics. I loved seeing them. Thanks for posting. Alyce sent me over. :)

  5. I want to be in a book club with Alyce! So jealous!

I have Half of A Yellow Sun, however haven’t read it yet. I can’t wait.

    Great post!

  6. I like the name of your book club and it sounds like you have a great time and discuss great books. The pictures are great…I have to ask what kind of place are you at in the pictures? I was wondering why there are pictures hanging from clothespins? The pictures of the eye are cool!

I’m in a F2F book club that I started but we aren’t all great friends outside of book club. We meet at each others houses and find that when we meet at restaurants we don’t talk as much about the books and aren’t as focused.

  7. The book group I’m part of meets to swap books rather than a shared read. We eat, chat about books and often get off topic.
Your meeting place is very differnt to ours, we meet in a large country pub/restaurant with blazing fireplaces and 19th century pictures, we always sit in the same place overlooking a meadow with cows and horses wandering past – its all very ‘English’.
I love the pics and wall mounts in your meeting place.

  8. You just gave me a great idea for a feature! Stop over in a little while and check it out – I am going to try to post it now before I go to work.

I hope you will participate as you woke up my brain this morning! :)

    LOL

  9. My book club has been in existence for 12 years. We are going through a rough patch right now. It’s a public group and there are just too many members right now. We average about 15 but have been known to have at least 20 at the meeting.

We don’t meet at a restaurant. Instead we meet at the library and to be honest with you, I am a bit bored with the format.

How many are in your group total? We are also not that friendly outside of the meeting which floors me since many of us have been around for 10+ years!

  10. I am so glad you made this book club. I was worried that we would disconnect when you moved from my town. I really love our friendship Bethany and am so glad we have a reason to get together each month. :)

  11. Shadow of the Wind is one of my faves!! Can’t wait to hear what you think! I just discovered you thru Twitter (thanks for following BTW), and love your blog so far!!

I just moved to a new city and am working on getting a new book club formed. I miss being a part of one!!
